The Mall, Walthamstow
Working with The Mall Limited Partnership for 20 years, the team at Helix have been advising and designing various aspects of their portfolio of shopping centres. Many of which have dated aesthetics and poor lighting; common in 1980's shopping mall designs.
A fully comprehensive refurbishment at The Mall, Walthamstow represents the latest completed project for the client.
The original 1980's centre suffered from dull aesthetics, harsh internal brickwork and dated colour schemes. A new themed and sculptural suspended ribbon playfully links different areas of the Mall, encouraging customers to explore the retail avenue. The ribbon is lit from different angles to creatively cast shadows on the walls and floors which varies with intensity through the day. Dated 'brickwork' facades, false windows, redundant planters were cleverly covered with a simple but successful way of varying frontage types. The project was nominated for best refurbishment award at the BCSC 2015.
